School Interrupted

I decided to blog yesterday about our first day of the new school year and show adorable pictures of the kids hard at work. I mean just log on to any social media site and you will see adorable pictures of all your “friends” kids and their first day of school, right? But, even the best of plans are foiled!!

We started school Tuesday, and the day went great! We always get excited at the start of a new year, one of the boys said “it’s like getting to start perfect.” Isn’t that true? Getting a clean slate is a blessing for all of us I think.

This year I have a 3rd and 6th grader plus lil missy starting K3 (it’s mostly to keep her busy and get her used to sitting still). Every year we get the questions on our choice of homeschool and I feel as though I must defend our choice once again. But, the Lord showed me something recently during one of my Pastor’s messages; this homeschool thing is what God has called me to do. So, when the clean slate has been smudged and the kids are tired of arithmetic and reading, I will remind myself that this is what God has called me to do and therefore I can have “joy unspeakable and full of glory.”

Oh so back to the interruption! I almost forgot! Day 2 of school and I am helping my oldest with spelling and my youngest boy walks through the hall, a wrestling move is attempted and OUCH, my little ones arm “pops.” Never good when a pop is heard! We immediately get to the car, put shoes on (while in the car) and head to the Emergency Room. By the time we get there my little boy is shaking all over (from the pain I think) and is more than pitiful. While we sit and wait on them to take us back, he starts to pray “Lord, help me”, “Lord, please help me” and as I hum Amazing Grace in his ear, he starts to sing it out loud. I cannot tell you how it stirred my heart to see my 8 year old son turn to Jesus when he was hurting!! Honestly, that sums up my strong belief in homeschooling my children, oh how I want them to turn to the Lord instead of this world. Chandler’s confidence wasn’t in what the doctor could do, it was in what the Healer could do!

It is my heart’s desire to train my children in the way of the Lord just as the Apostle Paul says in II Timothy 3:14, 15. “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures…”

So, whatever the Lord has called you to do (and if you’re a mother I can tell you it involves training your children) I pray you will go at it with all your heart and seek the Lord for guidance and strength. For me, it’s back to teaching my kiddos and taking extra care of my Chandler.
