Walking in the Shadows

Ah, sweet summer time! It is one of my favorite times of year. I love the lack of schedule, but just for a little while. Once August comes around I'm ready to get back to our routine. I do, however, use summer as a time for unschooling. I incorporate activities where the kids can learn without knowing their doing so. We love the app Epic (a teacher friend recommended this one), it is a great reading tool. We also take full advantage of the public library and all the fun things they do during summer. But reading is where it's at, I can not  say enough about the importance of getting our kiddos to read. As a parent, if we can instill a love for reading in our children they will be life-long learners. Here's a little glimpse at what we've been reading this summer. Our family reads a biography every night before our Bible reading. Now that school is back in session, I hope to be a bit more regular with my blogging. I've looked forward to school starting and now that it's here I find myself lamenting the free time that is no more.  Here at our house, we read. Alot. So, in honor of reading and my lack of time now to read, here is what we've been reading this summer. This was one of the only novels I read all summer, and it was actually Jason's book that I read after he finished. Great read. If I had to pick a favorite read this summer, it would be this book. It touched me in so many ways, and truly changed me. I want to buy a hundred copies and give them to all my friends, it really is a great book!! This author is above my reading level, ha, but this book was a good read and I was able to grasp his message.
